Glossary – Meteorite

  • A rock from outer space (originating usually from an asteroid) that has survived its fall to Earth.
  • They are typically made of oxygen, magnesium, silicon, iron, and a variety of other elements.
  • Not to be confused with a meteor, which is the name given to a meteorite during the short window of time when it is falling to Earth.
