Glossary – Mitosis (reproduction)

  • A process by which living things like bacteria reproduce.
  • During mitosis, a cell makes an identical copy (a clone) of itself.

There are different variations of mitosis:

Binary fission

  • A parent cell splits up into two identical cells.

Budding

  • A parent cell produces a smaller cell known as a bud.
  • The bud grows alongside the parent cell.
